Chapter Fourteen

Myra didn’t hear a thing from Alice for what seemed to be forever. It bothered her, mostly because Myra never expected Alice to ghost her like that.

Myra didn’t get a call or text back, nor did she care anymore. Apparently, Alice didn't want to see her. She thought many times about going over there, but something was holding her back.

Apparently Alice didn’t really care about their relationship, nor did she actively desire to want anything more than just a small fling, and that was that. Myra felt screwed over by this mentality, but what could she do? All she knew right now was that whatever Alice was going through, she didn’t want anyone else around while she struggled.

Which was fine. Myra went about her business. She went to school, finishing her studies and trying her hardest to ignore the nagging feeling. She would see Alice eventually though, unfortunately sooner than she thought.

About two weeks later, Myra encountered Alice. She was outside, looking at a few pictures. But, Myra could tell there was a lifeless look in her eyes, like she was hurting. Myra thought about ignoring and moving on, but she didn’t want to.

She knew something was wrong, just from the way Alice looked downcast.

Myra walked over, sitting across from her and smiling.

“Hey,” Myra said.

“Hi,” Alice replied in a snappy tone.

“You okay?” Myra asked.

Alice looked at her, and Myra could tell it was the worst question to ask.

“No. I'm not. I'm really hurting right now,” Alice said.

“I tried to call you, but you didn’t answer,” Myra said. Myra didn’t want to sound whiny or demanding, but she hated that Alice just kind of ghosted her.

“Sorry. I had something come up,” Alice said.

“So that’s why you didn’t bother reaching out? Because you had something come up?” Myra asked, her voice rising in annoyance.

“It’s bigger than you think Myra! It’s not like I'd ignore you over nothing,” Alice said.

“Could’ve fooled me,” she muttered.

“No Myra, it’s…something much bigger,” she explained.

Myra looked at her with abject confusion, unsure of what to make of it.

“What do you mean?”

“What I mean is, the problem I'm currently dealing with, is so big that I needed some time alone. It’s been two weeks since it happened, but I'm still hurting. And I don’t know how you feel about me,” Alice said.

Myra nodded. “I know. I've been doing some thinking regarding that as well,” Myra said.

She looked at Myra with widened eyes. “Really?”

“Yeah. I talked to my parents a little bit. And I've been working on my own life, so I've been trying to iron out those details,” she explained.

“That’s good. Mine is a bit bigger than that. Do you...want to maybe take it somewhere private?” she asked Myra.

Myra paused, trying to think about what could possibly be so big that she refused to tell her out in public.

“I mean, if that’s what will help you get comfortable, then let’s do that,” Alice said.

Myra smiled at her, and Alice seemed grateful for the offer. She took Alice’s hand, and together, they went over to one of the parks nearby.
